BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic condition characterized by high blood glucose levels due to insufficient insulin secretion or activity. treatment may include inhibiting carbohydrate breakdown enzymes like α-glucosidase. Chemical compounds of the marine-derived fungus have potential inhibit α-glucosidase and, thus, could be used in therapy. Marine sponge-derived lives colony on tissues living things. In marine sponge Xestospongia testudinaria DD-01, there Penicillium citrinum Xt6. P. Xt6 has been reported reduce alloxan-induced diabetic mice. AIM: This study aimed investigate inhibitory activity extracts and fractions MATERIALS AND METHODS: The was carried out vitro using p-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside (PNPG) substrate enzyme from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. ELISA measuring enzyme’s inhibition at wavelength 405 nm. Acarbose as standard drug, which inhibits RESULTS: Inhibitory concentration (IC50) value ethyl acetate extract 37.39 μg/mL, methanol fraction 60.01 n-hexane 75.45 acarbose 124.39 g/mL. CONCLUSION: It can concluded that developed into an antidiabetic agent.

Three new citrinin derivatives, penicitrinols C, D, and E (1-3), along with two known compounds, citrinin (4) and decarboxydihydrocitrinone (5), were isolated from Penicillium citrinum. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods and X-ray diffraction analysis. Compounds 1 and 3 demonstrated weak cytotoxicity against the HL-60 cell line.
